We Want Moore
We All Want Moore….
Kenny Moore, a key member of the Oregon track team injured his foot while racing the while racing in the Tiger TG-22. H contacted Bill Bowerman, a coach for the Oregon track team. So now, 2017, Nike honors the history of the birth of the Cortez and the legend who was essentially the brand’s first product tester, Kenny Moore. Bowerman being the famous shoe maker and designer that he was, made a plan to work creating a better distance running shoe for Moore while he recovered from his stress fracture. After long work on creating a series of many prototypes that were built with different modifications and tweaks. Kenny Moore had put over 1,000 miles on Bowerman’s creations, which made him Nike’s first wear-tester. The final result of all the prototypes led to The Nike Cortez.
Where do I begin!?
The reason I love this shoe so much is how I can relate to the struggles, pain, and sweat that Kenny Moore put into his journey with running and going through so many shoes to find his niche. Many of you know that I am a dedicated runner. I love to run, I could never compare anything to the feeling I get from running. In the past, I can relate to Moore’s injury in my own experience of having a stress fracture. It totally sucks. Not only is the pain horrible, but the thought of not being able to run really is the cherry to the worst cake possible.
This is my first Cortez in my collection. I never have tried on a pair before buying. The shoe did not sell me, the story did. The fact that I can relate and how it is a dream of mine to be a product tester for Nike Running Brand. Lets get into the details of this beautiful shoe…
Nike celebrates this history of the Cortez, with creating a special edition of the shoe inspired by one of Bowerman’s early prototypes. In my opinion the best part of this shoe is completed by the legendary coach’s hand-written “Moore” label across the white leather upper. Not only does the shoe feature this highlight, but the box is different than any other box I have ever received from Nike in the past. Adding so much personality and culture to the shoe really makes me appreciate it even “Moore.” In each color way of this shoe that was released has a story not only on the outside of the shoe, but on the inside. They all have a piece that resembles and shows the journey Kenny Moore went through to finding the right shoe for running,
Overall, I went true to size on the shoe and I am glad I did. I really love how comfortable this shoe is after wearing for a full day of being on my feet. Not only is it comfortable, but that comfort comes to you straight out of the box. This shoe was released in three different color ways. A light variety royal and a tour yellow. I did not have to think twice about wanting the off white color way of this shoe in my collection, especially because this shoe really speaks to me as a runner and always wanting MOORE out of my runs. Overall, if you got lucky to snag a pair, I hope you enjoy them and the history behind the sole as much as I do.
Brookeydoo Out.
