That Purple Though

Kith and Nike have done it again. This new collaboration that was only released at Kith locations and online at Kith.com. A big reason why I love kith is not for the hype, it is for what they do and how they do it. Ronnie Feig is a perfectionist when it comes to collaborating with any brand. If you have not ever had the chance to experience shopping at a Kith store in NYC, I definitely recommend if you are in New York to check out either of the two stores in the city.

From being able to have a bowl of cereal, enjoy a milkshake, or slam down some cereal inspired ice cream, you can also vibe out to all the different brands of clothing and apparel and fire hot kicks. The overall atmosphere of the store is what I love. From walking in and seeing everything Nike and being able to customize your own kith and Nike apparel, to taking a few steps away from the delicious ice cream and stepping foot into a darker room filled with hype energy of kicks, hats, accessories, and apparel from numerous high end brands.

“It all started with a dream. Well that’s not quiet right. It all started with a shoe.”

This is a quote I found in researching more about the man behind the design, Ronnie Fieg. Growing up in the 90’s as a teen, rather than being like everyone else and wearing Jordan’s, Ronnie wanted to stand out from the rest and favored the Uptempos worn by Pippen. From riding his bike to cop all the pairs that were released, he now designed and worked with Pippen to make the shoe that meant the most to him, his own reality. This is the stuff you love! The story behind the shoe, not just some hyped up shoe. This is what the sneaker culture has been lacking now a days and this is a big reason why I no longer ride that wave! Ronnie Fieg designed these shoes to give us a story, to educate us in an athlete, and to share what inspired him in the past to create something for us to be inspired by today.

Inspired by Scotty Pippen, this was the first shoe that was worn by the 6 time NBA champion. “My Short Twos High” paired by the original sneakers that were worn in the mid 1990’s. The Maestro 2 have been upgraded from the OG model including inner sock with added straps and off set lacing system and medium zipper complimented with a Nike swoosh in the toe box. Kith and Nike dropped two silhouette for the first drop. One in red and purple. I choose to get the purple in favor of it being my favor color. This purple color way is inspired by Arkansas where Pippen played his college days of basketball. The red color way was inspired the OG color way of the Maestro with new design elements, as I previously said earlier.

The collection featured several pieces of gear and two shoes. If you missed this week or were not able to cop a pair of these shoes, or if you were successful and lucky to snag yourself a pair of this super limited release... brace yourself, this is just week one. Nike and Kith will be releasing week two on October 6th, at Kith locations and kith.com. I know I plan to add the animal inspired to my collection, who doesn’t love a good cheetah?!

Overall, the fit and the feel. Let’s get into the dirty details about how not only these look beautiful but how they feel on foot. You would look this shoe would be super hard to just put on, well once you get them out of the box and take the tissue paper out.. All you really have to do is undo the strap on the side and pull the zipper down for some flare and they fit golden. I would recommend going your true to size for sizing. Overall, these are definitely bigger shoes than the normal runner I wear but I am a lover of Air Jordan 1's and these are about the size of bulk as them. If you did not get a pair at retail I would recommend jumping on it now while it's low.. Or wait for the second drop of the collection and grab that animal print, or if you are like me, you are definitely grabbing the animal print regardless...
