Mythological Creatures on Feet
"Growing up in Queens in the mid-’90s, a lot of kids wore Air Jordans. But my crew of friends wanted to be different so we all wore Pippen’s sneakers,"
Order up! Take Flight, pick up number 2.
The second drop happened last Friday, October 6th. I was lucky to be able to cop another pair of the highly anticipated Nike X Kith collaboration. Two weeks ago I copped the purple pair of the Too High Scotty Pippen and this week I copped the Chimara Pippen 1. If you see my previous post I go in depth of the back story behind Kith and how much Ronnie Fieg has influenced the sneaker game. Not only do I discuss the amazing treats you can get at the store, yes TREATS! ICE CREAM, CEREAL, AND MILKSHAKES! If you have not read that blog, make sure you do to hear some history about Kith and why I enjoy making a stop there when I am in NYC.
This color way was inspired by Scotty Pippen’s “Freak Ways” on the court. In which why the Chimera, an inspiration from the Greek mythological monster that had a lion head, goat body, and a serpent tail. This style of variation was made to show how versatile Scotty Pippen was on the court. With tiger print, leopard print, zebra print, and lion print. In the mist of all the craziness of animal print, you find the Nike Swoosh embodied in black on the front. The laces are give a rope like look with white tips. You always get a set of flat laces in the box. I love how the combination of different animals is showed to describe him playing ball. The inside of the shoe even has detail! It gives recognition of accomplishments that Pippen made being in the NBA located in the insole, followed by Pippens number, 33. I love how it shows a Hall of Fame tribute to his success. One of my favorite parts of this shoe are on the bottom the sneakers. There is a classic Pippen outsole but tiger gives you little flavor with the air branding with hints of leopard print.
Once again, the box was amazing. So much detail before you even have the shoe in hand. The boxing is the same box that went with the first drop of kicks in week one. I was lucky to yet again have a successful flawless pair of shoes. Recently, I have heard that some people had issues with the first release with quality. I have seen pictures that showed the shoes looking really worn, when they were shipped new in box. I fortunately did not have any issues with either pair that I purchased. For sizing of this shoe, I would go true to size or a half size down. I got my normal 7 in mens just like my first pair of Pippens from the week one "Take Flight" collection. However, I could have went a half size down. For shoes like these you definitely want to wear thicker socks or high socks, so if you do go true to size it will not be too big.
A big reason why I really love this shoe is it is very Original. Rather than a Yeezy Zebra that is seen almost everywhere, this is something that is really exclusive and if you were not able to secure a pair through Kith, you are paying re sale on these, due to this being a one time deal. Not to mention the history behind the shoe, highlighting Pippen, and showing a representation of his ball playing is fascinating to me. The thought process behind the design makes me love Kith collaborations so much more, props Ronnie. These are bulky! So I would definitely say you gotta wear them well in order for them really to pop.
Overall, I love this show. I am super happy to have this in my collection. This for me was a very hard cop, I can legit say I was sweating trying to order this one with issues with safari and connection on my phone, but I guess I had the mythological monsters on my side helping me cop. This will be something that will definitely be a shoe I wear less frequent than others, but when I do wear it, I am sure this will break necks. If this is something that you missed out on, I would act fast and pay the resell price. I believe for all pairs out of the collection are going to go up in value.
Brookeydoo Out.
